I am now in Masatepe 3-14-16
This week was good. I’m now in Masatepe. It’s pretty sweet. It is just on the other side of the lake. It is a lot cooler and the people here are more laid back. My area is huge. It has lots of little towns so that’s nice because in Masaya there were just city blocks. I like this area better so that’s dope. I’m not too into the city blocks and tons of dust. Here there is more trees and chiller people.
My companion is Elder Medrano. He is from Texas. He’s cool. He is also going to go to UVU so that’s dope.
One funny story of the week was I was walking in Masaya and there was a metal sheet cover over a hole in the ground, like a little place for water or something. I was just walking down the street and I didn’t think about it really and I just stepped on it because I was just walking and I could see that it was a cap for something but I figured it was fine to walk on and it was in front of me so why not? It is easier than going around and I didn’t really think much of it until I stepped on it and it just folded up and collapsed so I like dove with my other foot. Luckily I didn’t fall in the hole. Well luck doesn’t exist so I was blessed that I didn’t fall in the hole. It still splashed me and I fell but it was pretty funny.
A spiritual story was we were looking for a lady and contacted a house and asked the man who answered if he knew where she lived and then we started talking to this guy and he was having a lot of problems with his family and he invited us in and he came to church on Sunday and so hopefully he comes next week too. This work is directed by God.
Also I think it is cool mom that you are getting to fast with the Young Men and Women of the ward. The power of fasting is something incredible. To be honest I don’t see myself as being the best teacher or the best at speaking Spanish so I know that anyone who has been converted with me wasn’t because of me in any way but was because I was able to invite the spirit. As long as they feel the spirit and I do my very best and they can receive the spirit, they will convert. I really like the scripture in Alma 17:3, read it, it says that as we fast and pray, we will teach with power and authority. That is one thing I have always sought in the mission and I hope in some small way that I have been able to teach with power and authority. I find when I fast that my testimony even though it is simple can be conveyed with power and authority. I have been so grateful when that promise has been completed in my mission, when my investigators have had the spirit or when I have born my testimony to a contact and they have told me, “You have the gift of speaking. I can really feel what you are saying.” I just tell them it has nothing to do with me but it is the message that we have and that what they feel is the spirit. These have been experiences that have been achieved, I feel, mostly through fasting. Fasting has been a huge help for me in the mission. It has helped me to gain more patience and more understanding of the big picture of life. It can be hard without water. I didn’t do it until the mission but it is worth it whenever possible. It’s true that you can fast with water but whenever possible it is better without. Also read Isaiah 58:3-12. I love the part at the end of verse 9. When we cry out the Lord will say, “Here I am.” I testify that is true. As I have fasted and prayed my prayers have been answered.
Well I love you all tons,
