6-15-15
I say that because this area has been a struggle to get people in church. We’ve been working hard but just been getting 2 or 3 in church and the norm is 6. This last Sunday we got 13 in church so that was super cool. I decided that it’s really because there must have been a witch in my area. It wasn’t making sense. We were putting in the work but not seeing the results. Now I think it should go good because we have a bunch of positive investigators so that’s cool.
It was a good week. At the beginning of the week it rained a ton every night for a few days. That was chill. When it rains the work doesn’t stop so we just put our scriptures in plastic bags and go work just sopping wet. A bunch of the roads become rivers. I tried to take a picture but my camera was out of batteries. I was going to take a picture of us in the road/river that was close to knee deep and knee deep in some places.
The only problem with working in the rain is that nothing dries here in Nicaragua. I hang up all my clothes, washed my shoes and put it all in front of a fan on high all night and my clothes dried but my shoes not too bad actually but my agenda didn’t dry. So I had to put my agenda on the stove for a while. First I left it on 10w heat for 2 hours all morning from 7-9 while we were studying. It still wasn’t dry so then I turned the stove all the way up and cooked my agenda. It has a few burnt pages and almost smells like animal crackers now but it dried out finally.
When it was raining some guys got a truck stuck in one of the roads/rivers and we were trying to help but with a combination of his awful driving, bald tires and close to knee deep water, the truck was stuck there until the rain stopped and the river left so they could get it out easy.
This week was good. I ate my first apple since the MTC. It was good. Apples are like mangos in Utah. You rarely ever eat them because they are just kind’ve expensive. They are imported. Also super cool there is this little store in my area like a 7-11, like a little gas station right? They have mac and cheese but it was going to expire so it was buy one get one free, so I got 8 boxes of mac and cheese. I was stoked. It’s a cool little store and all the gringo stuff eventually goes on sale because no one buys it. I also got buy one get one free maple syrup and pancakes.
Also this week I saw a Subaru that was dope. It got here all the way from Massachusetts because it had the dealer sticker on it.
Also this week I think I might have found the giant centipedes that Cody talked about. I found two this week as long as my pointer finger. I don’t know it they are the same but the people here freak out about them too.
My area is doing good. We found some super good investigators so it was a good week.
Well love ya tons. Peace and Love,
Elder Rushton
