This week was chill. It was good we worked hard but had some good success I think. I’ve told you about my investigators Armando and Randle. They are way chill Armando can’t be baptized yet because he needs to be married but we baptized Randle this week. It went way well. The best part is we were able to get his mom to go. She is super penosa, or nervous to do new things. For some reason her and Armando still aren’t married but they will get there. On Wednesday we did a fast to try and help her feel the spirit and accept the gospel so she’ll get married and then Armando can get baptized.
Our fast was answered. We were walking by the house and she was out front talking to a missionary lady from an evangelical church. She was telling her all sorts of stuff about how we baptize in the name of some dead guy and stuff and we started talking to them and she asked if it was true that we baptize in the name of a dead guy and we were like no and explained it. Then the evangelist lady was like what’s with the Book of Mormon. We started explaining it and she tried to cut us with some scripture in Revelations that doesn’t apply at all and we then read her a ton of scriptures and then she had no idea what to say and so politely excused herself and left. We were then able to teach Elsa for like 30 minutes. It was dope cause usually when we teach Armando and Randle she is sleeping or has to go do something or is cooking cause it’s not that she doesn’t like the church but that she just doesn’t have a desire but she’s getting there. It was cool that she finally had a bit of an interest to learn and she came to the baptism of Randle and the next day they invited us over to dinner so that was cool. And she talked to a member that used to be her neighbor. She told her that she wanted to give the missionaries dinner because she she knows that Randle will want to go on a mission and when he’s out there she wants people there to feed him. I think they are going to get baptized but unfortunately it’s just takes time. We are working with baby steps. She didn’t go to church yet but really we just need her to marry Armando so he can get baptized and she’ll eventually follow. It could take some time but it’s crazy how God works.
She told us their side of the story how when we found them, we knocked on the door and she was like, “oh it’s the missionaries. I’m busy right now but come back tomorrow.” She was then like, “why did I tell them to come back tomorrow?” The next day we passed by and she saw us through the window and hid and we yelled at the door and the 3rd time she was going to tell her kid to say that she wasn’t home but Armando was like, no that’s bad luck. I’ll go talk to them and then we shared a message and he is now a super positive investigator. It’s crazy how God works.
Right now we have another investigator named David. He’s 15 and chill. He has come to church twice but he wants to share the gospel with all of his friends. We saw him and he introduced us to his friend and said he was trying to get him to go to church on Sunday and asked us to tell his friend why it was important. He took his buddies to the activities and one came to church. The other day we were contacting and we talked to this guy and he was like, oh you guys are the Mormons right? David invited me to church the other day, I’m his neighbor. So David is just stoked about the church. The other day we were working and he just found us in the street. He was in a white shirt and tie like, let’s go invite my neighbors and friends to go to church and be Mormon. He’s dope.
This week was chill the mission is going good. I’m loving the work. This Sunday was frustrating. We went to pass by this guy who wanted to go to church, named Domingo. When I passed by with a member in the morning, some lady was like, oh he left at like 6 in the morning to go to work. He’s not here. So he didn’t go to church but later we talked to his cousin and she was like, why didn’t you guys pass by for Domingo? He was all dressed up and ready to go and looking for you guys. I explained to the lady what happened and she thought it was funny. The people here can be frustrating cause he wanted to go but his family was just like, Mormons—better get rid of them. He’s like 40 so let him make his own decisions; don’t just assume that he doesn’t want to talk to us. But yeah, the mission is dope.
Peace and Love,
Z
